Parent Appreciation Breakfast

Parents truly do make the difference here at Pacifica. Working in classrooms, organizing committees, researching… everything you do here is important and appreciated. Please take a few minutes on Friday, June 10 between 8:30 and 9:15am to stop and enjoy the breakfast the staff is putting together to honor our Pacifica parents and volunteers.

Picnic in the Bowl

Don’t miss this opportunity!!!! Join us as we celebrate the end of the year at Kenneth Hahn Regional Park on Sunday, June 12 from 2-5pm. We will gather in Janice’s Meadow (the big grass bowl). Bring blankets, picnic and outdoor toys to enjoy (Frisbees, balls, etc.). There is a nominal entrance fee to the park on weekends

·        Information on Kenneth Hahn Recreation Area

4100 S. La Cienega Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90056 (323)298-3660
South of Rodeo.

(370 Acres) In 1932 this area was the site of the 10th Olympiad. In 1984 Los Angeles again hosted the Olympics, drawing athletes from 140 nations. To serve as a continual reminder of the events, 140 trees have been planted together on the hills where the 1932 events took place. Each tree represents a nation that took part in the 1984 Olympics. Activities include hiking, fishing, and group and family picnicking. Other amenities include children's play areas, community center, and a man-made lake.

Vehicle entry fee applies on weekends and holidays. Thomas Bros. Guide Map #: Page 673, A-2

An Opportunity to Get Involved and Have Fun!

If you want to see the small, gated playground (the old one at the back) re-done, join the Playground Committee.  Come dream up the perfect playground with us.  We've just won a grant for $18,000 worth of new rubber playground surfacing that we need to spend within 24 months.  Call Cheryl at (310) 948-8546 to join this new committee.

Work and Play Day

Please schedule time to come in and help on Saturday, June 18 between 10am and 3pm. It takes a lot of work to get rooms organized and everything stored so that it will be easy to find and set up for September. Our teachers need your help on this day to have the rooms ready to close for the summer after school is out. YOUR HELP IS ESSENTIAL…PLEASE MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO ATTEND!

Human Development Workshops

We are setting up workshops for parents interested in having more information around the topics of human (body) development, relationships, and boundaries. We will plan these in developmental groupings (so that we aren’t trying to cover info pertinent to 5 year olds and 13 year old in the same meeting. Please leave a note for Janette if you are interested in attending (this is vital to the planning process).

Our New Firewall

A big “thank you” to Glen Eichenblatt for installing our new computer network firewall. We had been experiencing some difficulty with students accessing non-approved websites. Glen went to work, researching the best option and getting it to work with our system. Students are still only to use the internet with direct supervision and are expected to not deliberately try to access inappropriate sites or try to hack into the system (by hacking passwords or other means). Deliberate attempts to circumvent our security system will result in a loss of computer privilege for the remainder of the year.

Voting for Organization Council Positions

Nominations have closed for the open Council seats. Ballots will be available on June 13. Voting closes on June 15 at 3:30pm. Thank you to everyone who stepped forward to be part of the Council next year. The transitional Council meeting will be held on June 21. The new Council will officially “take over” on July 1.

Remember, if you have questions about anything going on at Pacifica, you are always welcome to check in with me! – Janette
