Pacifica Wednesday WeeklyNovember 14, 2007 IMPORTANT CALENDAR DATES
If you have items to add to the calendar, please e-mail the date and time along with a description to calendar@pacificaschool.org CAMPUS BEAUTIFICATION DAY THIS SATURDAY Join us for another fun workday, this Saturday, November 17th, 9:30 am – 3:00 pm. There is a lot to fix and spiff up. (Just imagine if you had 170 kids in your house for 8 hours a day – there would probably be a bit of repair work to be done!) There are lots of jobs for the handy (you could fix one of our water fountains) and also for the not-so-handy (you could box and label books in the Ladies Auxiliary). We look forward to seeing you there! – Robin and Darby, Site Coordinators. KNOW YOUR COUNCIL! As part of our continuing series of introductions of members of Pacifica’s Organization Council, this week, meet your Secretary: Hilary Lentini I'm Hilary Lentini, and I'm the mom of Aria (5th grader) and Talia (3rd grader). This is our fifth year here at Pacifica. Our older daughter Aria started here as a first grader, and she loved it so much, that I fell in love with Pacifica, too, and the next year I joined the council -- that's how much I wanted to support the school and it's admirable mission. Volunteering on the council (as the secretary) has been a wonderful experience, one which I hope to continue as long as our children attend (all right -- probably long after that as well!). A little bit about our family: my husband AJ is a writer for radio, and I'm a graphic designer running my own successful design studio. Another way I support Pacifica via volunteering is pro bono design work. Our daughters Aria and Talia are both natural artists and storytellers, we're proud to say! Since AJ and I both value creativity, it was especially gratifying to see the creative atmosphere at Pacifica and that creative approaches to learning are not only valued, but explored and expounded upon. Aria and Talia have indeed blossomed here, and continue to -- we all look forward to a continued love of learning and community here! CLASSROOM UPDATES 2/3 Group: Dia de los Muertos - Thanks to all the parents and students for your willingness to share your passed loved ones with the 2/3 community during Dia de los Muertos. We enjoyed sharing stories, memories, and food with one another. Animal Logic - Last Friday the 2/3 students had the opportunity to wrap up their "Handle with Care" work with Lee Sherman by attending the theater production of "Animal Logic" at the Kirk Douglas Theater. The children seemed to enjoy the "live theater" experience and compared it to seeing the play performed in the church hall. We are going to try to keep the spirit of the bee alive by moving into bread and where bread comes from: wheat. Stay tuned. Fund Raising - The bake sale was a huge success. The students spent math time breaking into small groups and counting parts of the money. Then, as a whole the students came together to add those groups of money together to come up with the sum. We raised nearly $300.00! Our next fund raising event will be a "Healthy Snack" sale. Once again, thanks for all of your time. – Peace, Rita and Jenny IMPORTANT!
PLEASE READ IMMEDIATELY! Next week, On Mon., Tues., and Wed. (Nov. 19, 20, and 21) our landlords, First Lutheran Church of Culver City & Palms, will be re-paving our dirt parking lot and putting in new fencing along Dunn Dr. and Hughes Blvd. This means that for those 3 days, we will not have access to the parking lot. Those who stay will need to find street parking and as you can imagine, that might be very challenging. During those 3 days, we will have curbside drop-off and pick-up in effect. You will be able to drop off your child at the curb and have them walked into school by a volunteer or staff member. At the end of the day, when you pull up, the afternoon volunteer or staff member will call (via walkie-talkie) for your child to come out to meet you. (We need volunteers! Please see Lisa or Carmen!) Please bear with us during these few days while this project takes place. Your cooperation and patience will be much appreciated. Please make sure that your morning plan allows adequate time to compensate in order for your child to arrive to class on time. We ask that you discuss these changes with your children and make any necessary arrangements. This is a great opportunity for carpooling or taking the city bus to make it fun and educational for the kids! Please check in with the office if you have any questions. Once again, thank you for your understanding! Pacifica Administration |
