HALLOWEEN!

Halloween is fast approaching!  In order to help this day be as joyful as possible we have developed some guidelines that we'd like you to READ AND DISCUSS WITH YOUR CHILD:

*          NO WEAPON ACCESSORIES (PURCHASED OR HOMEMADE, including knives, bows, guns, etc.)

*          NO VIOLENT/GORY COSTUMING OR MAKEUP

*          MASKS WILL BE WORN ONLY INSIDE CLASSROOMS

*          PLEASE DO NOT SEND CANDY, SODA OR GLASS CONTAINERS

Each group will have an agreement about limits. Your child's teacher will inform you of any classroom activities or requests.

PREPARE FOR THE RAINY SEASON!

The Rainy Season is upon us! Pacifica’s students do enjoy the opportunity to play outdoors in light rain and in puddles that form in various areas of our playground. In order to be prepared on rainy days, we ask that you send the following to school for your child:

*          Two (2) changes of clothing

*          An extra pair or shoes

*          Rain gear (hooded jacket, boots, etc)

*          Umbrellas are okay without pointy ends

Children without the above extra items will be asked to stay dry and indoors if necessary.

KNOW YOUR COUNCIL!

As part of our continuing series of introductions of members of Pacifica’s Organization Council, this week, meet your Vice-Chairperson and Operations Committee Chair:

Janin Paine

“I am a native of Venice, California. I began managing family property in Venice as a teenager and am currently a real estate agent with ERA First Choice Realty in Santa Monica. I went to Play Mountain Place for elementary and middle school (as did my children, until we started Pacifica) and Area D Alternative School for high school, so most of my own education has been based on philosophy similar to Pacifica’s. I have a degree in bilingual education from Antioch University. I was the Board Chair at Play Mountain for five years and later the Director of Development (fundraising).

I have been involved with Pacifica since it’s inception: I co-wrote planning and implementation grants, co-drafted, edited and coordinated charter writing, coordinated with Los Angeles Unified School District, represented Pacifica at LAUSD board charter approval meetings, found and secured our school site, facilitated and organized planning meetings, wrote, co wrote, and consulted on numerous successful grant applications, etc…. I am now the Vice Chair and Operations Committee chair of the Organization Council. My children attended Pacifica - Toli is now an applied mathematics major at Harvey Mudd College in Claremont and Marlon has just started high school at New Roads.

We have two cats, assorted fish and an organic garden (unfortunately, no room for a horse, but Beth says I can have some eggs from her chickens). I am currently reading Satanic Verses by Salman Rushdie and love running on the beach. Please feel free to call or email if you have questions or comments regarding Pacifica.”
