Pacifica Wednesday WeeklyPrevious | Next September 12, 2007 IMPORTANT CALENDAR DATES
If you have items to add to the calendar, please e-mail the date and time along with a description to calendar@pacificaschool.org WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL! Pacifica’s staff and councils are very excited about the new school year! We’re excited about our programs and our prospects for extending our temporary charter. Our test scores from last year came back, and show significant improvement that should allow us to successfully petition LAUSD for an additional 4 years on our existing 1 year charter. We’ve done a lot of work to get ready for this school year, and, thought there is still a lot more to do, we’re ready to get started and provide our children with the best possible school experience! To that end, we need all our families to fulfill their Parent Participation commitments. Please remember that the success of our school is entirely dependant on your contributions, time and financial, to the school. Please contact Sahira if you have questions about Parent Participation (sahira@pacificaschool.org) or contact Janin about annual giving. HALF-DAY THIS FRIDAY Friday 9/14 is a half day. Pick up is at 12:45 pm. Extended after care is available for those students whose parents are unable to pick them up at 12:45. Pre-enrollment and pre-payment for this service is required. The fee is $10 for care up until 3:20. After 3:20, regular aftercare billing kicks in. See Carmen in the office to sign your child up and make your payment. Thanks! 1:00 pm PARENT PARTICIPATION COMMITTEE MEETING 9/18 The Parent Participation Committee (PPC) will be meeting on Tuesday, September 18, at 3:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome, however, anyone who has signed up for the PPC, especially all liaisons, are asked to attend. Please contact Sahira Traband at sahira@pacificaschool.org or 310.740.2716 with any questions. ARE YOU IN THE LOOP? The Loop is Pacifica’s preferred means of communication with the community. It’s fast, it saves trees, and it gets you the information you need about your school. Do we have your email address? If not, or if you’re not sure, please give your e-mail address to Lisa Covington, in the office or e-mail it to lisa@pacificaschool.org or glen@pacificaschool.org so we can add your address to The Loop. COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENTS This new section in the Wednesday Weekly is designed to provide a way for members of the Pacifica community to communicate with the community at large with requests for carpooling and other needs for assistance. To post something in the Wednesday Weekly, please e-mail glen@pacificaschool.org. Carpooling Needed

CLASSROOM UPDATES 4/5 Group: The 4/5 students want the community to know that on Wednesday we played a name game and learned everyone's name. We did morning meetings - problem/share/plan. We learned about the brain - when you call someone a name, part of their brain shuts down, and they can't learn. We did a student search to learn more about each other. We started reading "Because of Winn-Dixie." We sweated while we played Angels and Devils. We made new friends. On Thursday we followed limits at lunch, recess, and PE. We learned what mode means during Math. We made class graphs Patrick learned how to spell mode. We started Writer's Workshop and got our Writer's Notebooks, or Lifebooks. We talked about limits. On Friday we started decorating our Lifebooks, and we agreed that we had a really great week. The 4/5 teachers want you to know that we are so excited to be reunited with old students and to meet the new students that joined our community. The students have gotten off to a running start, and we are thrilled at how quickly they've adjusted back to school. We are so thankful for the parent support we've received already. We will be sending home information having to do with our Writing Workshop every day. Please check in with your child to keep informed with what we're covering in class. We are really enjoying the rich stories they've shared with us. Previous | Next |
