CLASSROOM UPDATES

K/1 Group:

Dear K-1 Families:

Hello again friends, here is some food for thought:

First of all, thank you for the great effort you make to prepare your kids healthy, delicious foods --because those little whippersnappers can really put it away! (Lately, some children are getting hungry in the afternoons). So, please consider checking in with your child about their current food needs/requests. Here are a few possible key questions:

  • Do you like what’s in your lunch?

  • Are you running out of snacks during the day and then getting hungry?

  • What are your favorite foods?

You might also ask them, “Have you eaten enough breakfast before school?” as many of the children request to eat during the first period of the day. We want to work with your child’s needs and we also want to maximize our instructional time as we are in the third trimester of school. We are working hard to be sure your child is prepared with important skills, like grade-level mastery of reading and math basics.

By the way, here are a couple of snack ideas if you’re feeling some lunch-packing quandaries:

Many of the children seem to enjoy fresh fruit and veggie snacks like strawberries, apples or celery, cut up in bite sizes. They also seem fond of protein snacks like string-cheese, yogurt or quesadillas (avoid spicy seasoning for most kids). Corn chips and guacamole is another big winner. And finally, lots of kids bring good things in a thermos (like mac and cheese with tender broccoli shoots).

Finally, please feel free to drop by the blue room on Friday afternoon and see our Tongva museum; we will be displaying Native American artifacts that we have dug up (from the sandbox) ourselves. Any parents who are interested in participating in our archeological investigation, please come in between 9:30 and 11:30, Thursday and/or Friday and bring (or send) lots of small beach shovels -- the more the merrier!

Thank you for your commitment to making this year beneficial, engaging and enjoyable!

Cheerio!
