CLASSROOM UPDATES

2/3/4 Group:

Ten thousand cheers for every community member that pitched in to help clean our classrooms. They look fabulous! The teachers got a lot accomplished on our planning retreat, and it was so nice to come home to clean rooms after all our hard work.

Our 2-3-4 parent/student meeting was very well attended. Thank you for your support. Children are bringing their lifebooks into class, and it's very exciting. We are really creating a community of writers and readers!

We are going to the Science Center on Friday, and we need parent drivers. Please sign up on the door.

Thanks again for all your help!

Love,

Gabe, Melissa, Patrick, and Sascha

5/6 Group:

Hello again from 5/6!

We can't believe that another week has gone by so fast! We have been so busy in work and classroom discussions; right now we are studying lots of different things. In math groups 3/4 (Ramiza), we are learning new strategies when solving addition, subtraction, multiplication and addition problems. We are also learning about statistics and data analysis (mean, mode, range etc) and spend Fridays doing logical thinking/problem solving projects and preparing for the state tests. In groups 1/2 (David) we are learning about decimals and how to manipulate them in problems. In language arts we have started to read in reading groups, working on developing reading and writing skills. We hope to start a persuasive writing unit by the end of this week. 5th graders are learning about US History and 6th graders are learning about India. If parents have any information that they think will help us in our learning, please let us know!

We have also made some schedule changes (we have had class discussions about these changes and voted for them) in our classroom and we know that some students have big feelings about this. We are working very hard to make it safe and comfortable for students and also encouraging students to really experience a change before they make a decision about it. Please help your child process these changes. Right now, we have morning meeting, language arts, break, math, lunch, free choice, mindfulness, project time, reflection and PE. We are also exploring mindfulness in our class, trying to support and guide students to become aware of their bodies and mind. This would include such things as meditation, breathing techniques, yoga and other activities. We would LOVE parents to be a part of this. If you have skills in any of the things listed or any other activity PLEASE, PLEASE come support us!!!!! (Mindfulness happens from 12.55 - 1.05.)

Reminder: keep on bringing in healthy snacks for our kids! We have noticed a change in eating habits and focus in learning. Please support us in this endeavor. And thanks to the parents who volunteered to support our PE mile run! Thank you so much.

Parent meeting is on Tuesday 20th Feb. at 5.30pm-6.30pm. Please bring one of the resources listed on our classroom door (as of today), as potluck. We will try to get an agenda out ASAP.

Lastly, we NEED YOU in the CLASSROOM!!! Please please please make time, any time.... your child and our classroom community needs your help!
