CLASSROOM UPDATES

K/1 Group:

K/1 Family,

We are going to the ECO STATION next week. Please make sure you fill out your child's permission slip.

Be on the look-out for our classroom wish list. We are in need of many supplies. Anything you can contribute from the list will help.

Our program runs much more effectively with your involvement. If you can support the teachers and students in the classroom, please do. If you cannot be in the classroom, there are a number of ways that you can assist: you can help plan fieldtrips, put materials together, clean & organize the classroom after hours, and make optional homework packets. This list represents just a few ways that you can help. Any assistance that you can give is much appreciated. Check in with any of us for more information.

Make sure you pack enough protein in your child’s lunch. This will help support their energy level throughout the day.

Remember this is the winter season. Please be sure that your child has an extra pair of clothes in his/her cubby and that they are dressed accordingly. Even if they say they are not cold in the morning please send them with a coat. We are experiencing "funky" weather, hot one minute cold the next and the kids are in and out of coats all day. What matters most is that they have the option to put on a coat at school.

Have a beautiful week!!!

-Cristina, Melinda, Shaquanda & Tracie

4/5 Group:

Hello and Happy New Year to all!!! Hope the break was full of love and happiness. We are starting to mix up the 5/6/7/8 grades for Math, Language Arts, History and Science. We are doing this to help accommodate all learning levels in our classes. Ask your child(ren) how they feeling about these new changes.

We put 3 Scholastic book orders in your student's mailboxes. Please turn them in as soon as possible so I can put the order in. I had just sent the checks in for the last orders, so they will be coming to school in about 2-2 1/2 weeks.

We would like to remind everyone about bringing healthy snacks for the class. The sign-up sheet is posted on the classroom door.

We will be beginning a more structured P.E. program, and will need all students to bring appropriate footwear to participate. Shoes can be brought and left in their cubbies if needed. If there are any questions please don't hesitate to contact us!!!

7/8 Group:

Hello everyone, John-Robin reporting.  In the 7th and 8th grade class, we are keeping quite busy. We have four new students, Alex L., Chris, Kendall, and Taheem. We are planning a class camping trip. In the here and now though, we are studying Geometry, Pre-Algebra, Algebra, and we just finished an investigation into the nature of Tsu Chung Chilh's triangle (you might know it as Pascal's triangle). “The House on Mango Street” is the book we are all reading right now in our book groups, so if you want to have an interesting literary conversation with your favorite 7th/8th grader, you can read Sandra Cisneros's novel. We have started an intensive study of spelling and will begin to review cursive soon. The 7th graders are wrapping up their study of the Byzantine Empire as are the 8th graders their examination of the Bill of Rights. Both grades continue their respective work in Physical Science and Life Science. We also recently made some potato stamp art and friendship bracelets as well. Truth be told, there is always something happening in 7th/8th!
