COMMUNITY FORUM ON THURSDAY

On Thursday, November 30th, from 3:30-5:00pm, we will hold an open Community Forum. Several community members have expressed interest in discussing the intersection of our philosophy, our individual rights and responsibilities and the rights and responsibilities of our community. We encourage everyone who is interested in this conversation to attend. If there is interest, the conversation can be continued in the future.

BEAUTIFICATION DAY!

On Saturday, December 2nd from 10am-2pm, we are asking that our parent community turn out in force for our next Beautification Day. It is very important that all families participate. Many hands make light work. Come and have fun with us!

BEST PRACTICES AT PACIFICA

We are putting together a presentation of our Best Practices at Pacifica, with a focus on Parent Participation and Conflict Resolution.

If you have any photos or any stories to share regarding parent participation and the benefits you see for your own or other children, please let me know. You can email photos and stories to Beth@pacificaschool.org or you can drop them in my box, listed as Abels-Sullivan. Thanks!

CLASSROOM UPDATES

From the 5/6 Group:

Hello everyone from Ramiza and David

Welcome back from our nice holiday weekend! This week we are starting our unit on Native Americans. In our first week we will be studying the Plains Indians. Besides the regular classroom assignments, there will be work sent home to finish or edit.

We will be filling out progress reports in the next couple of weeks. Ramiza and I will be available for meetings if there any questions about your son/daughter.

In the event of a rainy day and your child wants to go out into the rain, he or she will need to bring a change of clothes that day. No exceptions.

Parents, if you could help us out and donate any of these things for the class:

  • White board markers (any color(s))
  • Pencils
  • Erasers
  • Manual pencil sharpeners
  • Age appropriate books:
    • Chapter books,
    • U.S. and world history books

THANK YOU!!

From the K/1 Group:

Greetings from the K/1 family,

We had a wonderful celebration of community & family last week. Our potluck was a success. Thank You! Thank You! In our SEER project K/1 is seeking to answer the question "How does water effect our daily lives?" We have found that water is essential to our food supply so our unit focus is food preparation and water.

Books clubs are starting this week. Many of you are aware that your child has been assessed using an informal assessment. Shaquanda and Cristina will be working with students who are at the pre-reading & emergent literacy levels, while, Melinda will be working with students are who are developing or show consistency with their literacy development. At this point, book clubs are twice a week, and will serve as an opportunity for your childs academic needs to be met in a non-labeling way.

FYI-
*The richness of our classroom is dependent upon our parent participation, it is important to us and your child to have you in the classroom. Our classroom support helps the teachers handle the peripheral aspects of our program (various classroom task, pulling materials, transitions, one-on-one support, labeling, sorting & organizing etc.)

*Please bring an extra pair of clothes as the weather and season are changing.

*Friday December 1, 2006 will be FRIENDSHIP SALAD DAY... we will have a fruit salad in one room and a garden salad in the other room. Please bring an item to contribute to our FRIENDSHIP DAY.

*Save the date WORK DAY DECEMBER 2, 2006 --We will be labeling all materials and refining our environment, because of the last work day we dont have that much to do. Dont forget to bring a snack....

*Wholefoods Market fieldtrip tour coming soon!!!

Thanks again for all the love and support that the K/1 family and friends have extended. We are certainly grateful.
