Please don’t forget to pick your child(ren) up from school at 12:45 pm on Thursday. Teachers will be engaged in collaborative work for the remainder of the day. It is important to pick up your students on time. Extended care will be available for students whose parents are unable to pick them up at 12:45. Pre-enrollment and pre-payment for this service is required. The fee is $10 for care up until 3:20. After 3:20, regular aftercare billing kicks in. See Carmen in the office to sign your child up and make your payment. School will be closed on Friday in celebration of the Veteran’s Day holiday. THE BIG SHOW! EVERYONE is welcome and encouraged to come! It's a great family event! Don't forget to invite extended family and friends as well. IMPORTANT! Please note: It's our early release day on Thursday. For those families with students who have been participating in the program this year, students will need to either remain on campus or be brought back to campus by 4:00pm! This is really important! Participating children must be here at 4pm! So, once again your child can remain on campus under the supervision of our support staff for extended care OR bring your child back to school by 4:00! The Young Storytellers volunteers that have been working with the kids will be here by 4pm to work on posters with your child and finish any preparations needed for the Big Show. They provide dinner (pizza) for the kids in the program while they make the final touches. During the show, you will be responsible for your children, there is no childcare provided. Also, please arrive early for the performances! Thanks and we'll see you there BEAUTIFICATION DAY – SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 1110am to 1pm Please join us in making our site look beautiful! This is a great time to put in some of your participation hours! TEACHER & STAFF APPRECIATION DAY SUCCESSFUL K-1 WORK-DAY Thank you to all the K-1 families who worked so hard to clean and ORGANIZE the classrooms. Our new cubbies are beautiful and the rug donations make a huge difference in coziness!!! Thanks to the parents who stapled, drilled, hammered, re-wired, painted, filed and scrubbed, your time and effort are much appreciated and our kids benefit tremendously. The chicken was tasty too! Parent Participation Committee CLASSROOM UPDATES From David & Ramiza’s Group: We would like to remind all the parents that the bake sale will be moved from Tuesday to Thursday the 9th of November. We would like the parents to donate some plates that do not need to be returned. Also a reminder that the cakes should be cut up into slices before donating and that all food needs to be covered. David's math group has been given a Review sheet for the math assessment on Thursday, please ask your son or daughter to share the review sheet with you. Please don't forget to bring in things for the 3-D sculpture and don't forget to check-in with either David or Ramiza on volunteering or donating to the project making the chair slip covers and the desks. From the 2/3/4 Group: This was a great week, and we want you to hear about it. We worked hard to build a Haunted House/Maze all day Monday and most of Tuesday. We were exhausted! We even scared some 8th graders in the maze. In Science we turned matches into rockets, and one flew over 10 ft (125 in)! It was so, so fun!! We learned that explosions make combustion. During art, we were busy painting pictures in the style of Mondrian. We played kickball during PE. Our Island of the Blue Dolphins book club has ended, and a new Book Club has begun. Be sure to stop by in a couple of weeks to check out the animal reports the writers in our group are working on. You might've heard some of us singing "All Together Now" by the Beatles. Sascha taught it to us in Music. Don't forget that Thursday night at 6pm is The Big Show. Ethan, Dakota, Riley, and Anthony W. have been working for weeks with The Young Storytellers on this production. It's going to be great!! We want to send a special thank you to all of the parents that volunteered to organize and re-arrange the classroom a few weeks ago. We really love how wonderful it looks. We would appreciate any help with upkeep that can be offered by parents. You can stop by any time you are available, even if you're not on the schedule. Good news! Karey's sister had a healthy baby. If you see her around campus, be sure to say, "Congratulations!" Written by: Dayo, Anthony D., Chanel, Zzyzx, Meagan, Breanna, Karey, Anthony W., Avery, and Ethan Greetings from John-Robin and Brandy: Hello once again, John-Robin here to fill you in on what we are up to. In the 7th and 8th grade class, we continue studying both Pre-Algebra and Algebra. We have just started working on set theory. We read a short story aloud in class on Monday and I must tell you that we might have some future voiceover actors. The 7th graders are studying Life Science and currently are learning about the fall of the Roman Empire while the 8th graders are focusing on Physical Science and American History. Art continues at every opportunity. There is more, but I will leave it off there for now. Until later... Quote of the Week We do not remember days, we remember moments. - Casare Pavese |
