YOUNG STORYTELLERS: THE BIG SHOW!!

Don’t miss “The Big Show” next Thursday night at 6:00 pm at the school! For the past few years, as a result of grants, Young Storytellers brings screenwriters to campus to mentor our 3rd through 8th grade students. After several weeks of development, student-written scripts will be performed live by real actors on our “stage”. All previous years’ shows have been extremely entertaining and FUN! Please be sure to attend this wonderful event!

CLASSROOM UPDATES

From David & Ramiza’s Group:

David and Ramiza sent out a weekly newsletter on Monday this week. If you missed the letter please come and see us and we will provide one. Our class has been working on the concept of volume which we hope to consolidate by early next week. It is one of the last concepts the students needed to learn as part of the measurement unit. If you are able to spend any extra time at home to help your child practice or even discuss: perimeter, circumference, area and volume it will help create a strong knowledge base from home.

Secondly, we asked parents to continue helping us with sending odds and ends for our 3D sculpture- you will find more information in our Monday newsletter. Thank you to those parents who have already contributed. We do still need dice, tiddly wink counters, whiteboards, PE gear. These have a slightly higher priority than the others on the list.

FYI- the notice about the possible fieldtrip to the Ballona Freshwater Marsh has been determined. We will not be going on the fieldtrip this Thursday. Ramiza is trying to arrange a whole school performance at a later date.

As you know, the students do have the opportunity to choose to participate in the learning activities that are offered. We try and encourage our students to find connection between their personal plans and grade 5/6 academia. If parents could check-in with the learning experiences their child has had during the day, it will help create that support system between home and school. We always have a learning checklist - there are certain skills that students may need to learn in order to operate at a higher level. Please try and check in with your kids about the learning checklist. It helps them regulate and monitor their own learning and choices.

Please continue to come into the classroom during the day - it really makes a huge difference when parents are involved in their child's learning.

Greetings from Jon Robin and Brandy:

Our class community is coming together. We have enjoyed all of the Halloween festivities and look forward to the continual development of our learning environment. We are getting further into history projects and fine-tuning our personal plan skills. Thanks to all the parents who have been helping us in various ways - and we encourage parents to support their child's learning by being in the classroom. Family conferences are quickly approaching; John-Robin and Brandy will be calling soon to set up appointments.

From the K/1 Group:

Hello Families,

Just a quick note to thank all the parents who attended our Parent Workday last Sunday afternoon and spent time transforming our classrooms. Coming back to school on Monday in our new environment was very uplifting. It felt so comfortable and people settled in easily. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

For the K/1 group attending the planetarium at Santa Monica College on Thursday, please make sure to leave your child's car seat in front of the K/1 classrooms if you are not driving. We still need more DRIVERS to sign up, so let us know if you are interested in carpooling! Also, please remember to sign your child's permission slip if you have not signed one already.
