No School on June 23

We have scheduled our TBD Professional Development Day for Friday June 23rd. This was originally scheduled as our last day of school. The last day on campus for students will now be Thursday, June 22nd. Questions? See Janette

Science Fair

Our second annual Science Fair will be held on Thursday, June 8th at 6:00 pm. Please save the date. We will have a wide range of things to see and do. Some classes will be sharing classroom projects and others will assign a more independent project. We do expect all students to participate and hope that all families will attend and support our students.

Explorations Fair

We will be celebrating the culmination of our third round of Explorations on Thursday, June 15th at 1:00pm with an exhibition of our work. Enjoy museums, performances, and presentations on topics from Edible Art to Metallica. Ask your child which Exploration they are participating in. The entire community is welcome and encouraged to attend.

Re-enrollment meetings

During your June classroom meetings, we will devote a portion of the time to re-enrollment. Attendance at these meetings is MANDATORY for re-enrollment. Please watch for dates of the classroom meetings!

Pacifica food co-op

by Alex Pine

Hi! I’m thinking about starting a food co-op here at school, so if you are interested, please sign up on one of the flyers in front of your child’s classroom or talk to Alex Pine in group 6 (AKA Schwa).

Donate your used Car, Truck, RV, Motorcycle or Boat

Just a reminder -- we are very happy to take donations of used cars, trucks, RVs, motorcycles, boats.  The motor vehicle need not be running.  We'll make it easy for you.  You get the tax deduction. Call Cheryl W. for more info (310) 948-8546

Policy Proposals

Policy Proposals will be distributed Friday, May 26th regarding toys and items from home and guidelines for field trips. These were generated from input from the community and put together in a whole community meeting on Monday, May 22nd. These policies will be proposed to the Organization Council on Tuesday, May 30th. Everyone is welcome to attend the meeting and comment.

SPRING FESTIVAL – THANKS!

By Kellie Briley

Thanks to everyone in the Pacifica community who helped make the Spring Festival a great success.  A big holla! to the many who came and had a great time at the Silent Auction, enjoyed the delicious Taste of Pacifica delights, grooved to the entertainment, and danced with the spirits.

To all those who were so giving with their time, talents and sponsorship in preparing for the Festival, we could not have done it without each individual's part, and all the elements added up to a really productive whole... a whole lot of fun!

So many people helped to put this event together it's dangerous to begin to list names, but at the risk of having to repent, I'll vouch that our own emcee extraordinaire AJ Lentini deserves a special nod for helping move the day along with lots of style.

Similarly, without Dan Hagerty and the elusive but growing Parent Council the Spring Festival would not have been possible.

Members of the Fundraising team were instrumental in every aspect of the event, including but not limited to Kathy, Kellie, Doris, Lisa G., Michiyo, Naoko, Milena, Cheryl, Carmen, Donna, Elisa, Jody and Mary.  Big Thanks to the performers and everyone who helped set up, especially the Dave and the Site Committee.  To all the families who made food and had booths, we appreciate your diversity and deliciousness.

Our Organization Council had a large part in producing the Festival, and we really are grateful for the help of Stacey who closed the whole thing out financially. The dedicated staff and teachers, led by Janette and with Lisa running the office, all helped to make the Spring Festival the terrific event it was this year. Among students, Marlon really helped to carry the festival along, and of course the Pacifica students as a whole are the inspiration behind the perspiration!

Others with whom we could not have done with out include Fundraising Committee co-chair Anna Wayne who, like Dan, was at the festival from start to finish. Also lending invaluable support were Janin Paine, Gabe Trevizo, Cliff, Michael, Lakshmi and so importantly, Mel from the church, who saved the day with electrical support.

And the clean up crew? Jerry, Lillian, Glen and others worked really hard to make the grounds look great before days end... not an easy job, well done.

Thanks would not be complete without another nod to our sponsors, whose base support helped us keep festival costs really low:

CLASSROOM UPDATES

Sascha’s Class

This week we will be preparing for a trip to Will Rogers Beach. If any parents are available to chaperone, please let me know. We are continuing work on a play about unionization entitled “Trouble in the Henhouse.” We have been working with fractions and percentages, and will focus on prime numbers and factorization. We will revisit the haiku form, and learn about iambic pentameter.
