Help with the Robotics Program

If you are interested in helping the kids have the fun and learning experience of designing and building their own toy (or practical) robots -- we need you.

This will be so fun -- there are art robots, battle-bots, racing bots.  The possibilities are as endless as our kids’ imaginations. You need not know anything about electronics or robots (or anything whatsoever for that matter) -- just the ability to search out info on the internet. Janin and Cheryl will give you some places to get started and you will condense what you learn/ find for the teachers.

Also, if you know anyone who is a bot-building hobbyist (or even pro), please put us in touch.  If you’re interested, contact Cheryl Ward at 310.545.6151.

Absences When Kids are Not Sick
By Stacey Montalto, Pacifica Mom and School Treasurer

Did you know that almost all of our funding is based on the number of days each student attends school? For each day child is absent, Pacifica loses approximately $37 in revenue. So, while attendance is most crucial to ensure that our children receive the full benefits of a Pacifica education, it is also critical to our having the funding necessary to pay for our great teachers and programs.

I don't usually take my girls out of school unless they are too sick to attend, but their grandfather is making his annual trip West this week and because he splits his time between our family and my sister's, we will only have him with us Thursday through Monday. So, I will be taking Kelsey out of school for Thursday and Friday - and to compensate the school for our personal choice, we will be contributing $74 to cover her two days of missed attendance. I hope that, if the spirit of Pacifica moves you, you will consider doing the same if your child should ever be absent for voluntary
reasons.

Thanks for your consideration and support!

Pacifica's Spring Festival — Saturday, May 20th

The Spring Festival is currently scheduled for the afternoon of Saturday, May 20th.

More details will follow soon, regarding food, booths, entertainment, games, and other exciting developments.  PLEASE SAVE THE DATE!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED - The Spring Festival is being coordinated jointly between
the Parent Council and the Fundraising Committee. We can use 2-4 more
volunteers from the community to help put the event on. If you have a desire
to contribute to one of the most fun events of the entire year, please email
Dan at dan@pacificaschool.org .

LOST AND FOUND ALERT!

Please check the Lost and Found for your kid's belongings before spring break. Thereafter, Darby will be taking the remaining stuff to Goodwill.  If Darby finds anything with names written inside she will try to match it with and return it to their owners.

ART SUPPLY COUPONS NEEDED FOR MIRIAM’S CLASS
By Susan Bunten

Everyone who gets the Sunday Los Angeles Times also gets an advertisement for a craft store called Michael's. Their flier is printed on newsprint and folded in with the mass of glossy ads. There is a weekly 40% off coupon on the front cover of that insert. If we can get enough coupons collected, Miriam's class can get going on an art project that requires some specific tools.  Most of the materials have already been collected, but those still missing are essential.

If you can help, please tear out the coupon and drop it in my family mail cubby. These coupons expire weekly, so receiving them early in the week will be helpful.  Our mail slot is labeled "BUNTEN-JOHNSTON"; it is at the bottom of the first column of cubbies.  Thanks for helping! For more information, call Susan Bunten at (310) 838-0377.

VERY IMPORTANT! PLEASE LOG YOUR PARTICIPATION TIME!

Please remember to log your volunteer hours in the Parent Participation Log Book in the front lobby by the end of this week. The Parent Participation committee is currently reviewing the Log Book and will be submitting the results to be discussed during your re-enrollment meetings. Don't forget to list any and all hours you have spent serving the school (i.e. fieldtrips, phone tree, work days, office support, raking, sweeping, cleaning, driving, lost and found, painting, etc.)  Everything you do is very much appreciated!!!!

Thank You,
Parent Participation Committee

Have You Noticed?
As part of our on-going professional development plans, some staff members have been spending time in different classrooms. This will continue after Spring Break. The staff and students have enjoyed the experience.

Dr. Seuss, On Diversity
We see them come. We see them go.
Some are fast. And some are slow.
Some are high. And some are low.
Not one of them is like another.
Don’t ask us why. Go ask your mother.
