Parent Support Group with Janette, March 14th at 3:30 pm

All parents are encouraged to participate in our monthly Parent Support Group. We will focus on fostering non-violent communication in the family, building cooperation and strengthening family relationships as well as supporting our children at school. Janette will facilitate the meetings.

Pacifica’s New “Green Team” Starting Up!

With new landscape plantings around campus from Tree People, Neighborhood Matching Fund, Common Vision and parents, it’s critically important that we adequately maintain our open space resources. To that end, the “Green Team” will be meeting weekly on Wednesday mornings from 8:30 to 9:30am to ensure our campus plants and trees thrive right along with our students. Your volunteer time counts toward your parent participation commitment, while getting some fresh air and plant interaction! Bring gardening gloves and hand tools if you have them. All are welcome!!

Charter Renewal

The Charter Renewal Committee will be attending a LAUSD charter renewal workshop on Thursday, March 23. We intend to submit a draft renewal to LAUSD by June, 2006.

Enrollment Committee Updates

Enrollment Committee will be hosting a table at the Co-op Council workshops. Information about this event will be posted in next week’s Wednesday Weekly.  Please sign up for a shift if you would like to support this outreach effort.

Also, Pacifica will be sending out re-enrollment letters to all current families, so please return your form as soon as possible so we can determine our enrollment for next year. Current families with siblings to enroll in the fall, please pick up an application from the office. Siblings have priority, but we still need your application before the lottery on March 31st.

The Enrollment Committee is looking for a couple additional members. Please contact Allison@pacificaschool.org if you are interested.

Parent Participation by Lisa Givot

As the chairperson of the Parent Participation committee, I would like to welcome our new families to Pacifica and say thank you for jumping right in and taking on volunteer commitments!

I have been reaching out to families to ensure that everyone is able to find a way to contribute to our children's lives here at Pacifica. I want to remind families to log your volunteer efforts in the Parent Participation book in the front lobby — I will be reviewing the hours soon and contacting those who may need some suggestions about more flexible ways to contribute.

At times, the commitment we have all made to volunteer 3.5 hours per week, join a committee and participate in at least two work days can seem like a lot. The payoffs for our children, however, are immeasurable. We have all chosen to be part of the Pacifica community and it is up to each one of us to make our school the best it can be. We are in a unique position to create and be part of a community unlike any other in Los Angeles. Let's celebrate this opportunity and do everything in our power to bring it to fruition.

I would appreciate any feedback you may have on ways to help families feel more connected to our community and able to share their time and talent.
